Anka Govedarica Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Anka Govedarica, age 97, of Chicago, passed away peacefully at her home with her children at her side on Tuesday afternoon, July 27, 2021. Born on August 12, 1923 in Skare Otacac, Lika, she was the beloved daughter of the late Mane and the late Milica Banjanin; loving wife of the late Ljubo; cherished mother of Jovan (Jelena “Helen”) Govedarica; Milica (Donald) Pogorzelski, and Jovanka “Beba” (Milan) Milinkovic; proud grandmother of Sophia (Glenn) Nelson, Jovana Govedarica, Alexander (Dunja) Pogorzelski, Ankica (Djordje) Koldzic, Mirjana (Ryan) Dorsey, and Grujo (Natasa) Milinkovic; Adored great-grandmother of Nolan, Matthew, Roksanda, Milana, Sofija, Teodora, Ljubisa, and Momcilo. She was a member of the United Serbian Society “Jedinstvo,” and several Chetnik organizations, and a supporting member of the Branko Radichevich Choir, Kuma to the Circle of Serbian Sisters of Chicago at Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral and Kuma to the Chetnik Kolo of Chicago. She was past president of the Church Kolo for 7 years and was also Kuma to Udruzneje Srba Republike Srpske for many, many years. One of her dearest accomplishments, with the blessing of the late Metropolitan Christopher, she initiated the project to fresco the walls of St. Sava Monastery, Libertyville, IL. She will be missed dearly by her family, kumovi, and friends. Visitation Friday, July 30, 2021 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral, 5701 N. Redwood Dr., Chicago, with Pomen (Wake Service) 7 p.m. Opelo (Funeral Service) Saturday, July 31, 2021 10 a.m. at Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral. Interment St. Sava Cemetery.
